Every way to get Tera Shards in Scarlet & Violet, and how to change your Pokémon's Tera Type ♡
The short version
What are Tera Shards for?
Tera Shards change your Pokémon's Tera Type. Collect fifty of the type you
want and a Cook in Medali will change it for you ♡
How changing Tera Type works
Where to goThe Treasure Eatery in Medali. Talk to the Cook behind the counter.
WhenOnce you've beaten Larry, the Medali Gym Leader.
What it costsFifty Tera Shards of the type you want, or fifty Stellar Tera Shards for Stellar.
Ogerpon and Terapagos have fixed Tera Types, so theirs can't be changed.
Tera Raids
Tera Shards from raids
Raids of 3★ and up give Tera Shards that match the raid's Tera Type. The host gets an extra
share, so here's what each star level gives, straight from the game's reward tables:

A little extra. 4★, 5★ and 6★ raids can also roll extra shards as random rewards.
The Glimmering Charm. It adds two shards to a 3★, five to a 4★, ten to a 5★ and twelve to a
6★. Jacq gives it to you on Reveler's Road once you complete the Kitakami Pokédex.
Pick your type on our stream. In our advanced search you can choose the Tera Type
you want, then request that exact raid in our Twitch chat ♡
Need a lot of one type? Raids add up slowly, so the Item Printer below is the fastest way to fifty.
The Indigo Disk
Print Tera Shards with the Item Printer
The Item Printer picks what it prints using your Switch's clock. Set the clock to the right
second and one job of five prints gives you sixty or more shards of the type you picked, enough to change a Tera Type in
one go ♡
What you need
A Master Ball Item Printer. Talk to Reese in the League Club Room to upgrade it as you use it: Great Ball
(200 BP), Ultra Ball (500 BP), then Master Ball (1,000 BP), which also needs you to have caught Terapagos. This only
works at Master Ball.
BP and materials for one job of five prints. On the materials screen, press X to fill them in for you.
A stopwatch on your phone.
1
Save at the printer
Walk up to the Item Printer in the League Club Room, save your game right there, then close the game completely.
2
Change the clock
On your Switch, go to System Settings, System, Date and Time. Turn off Synchronize Clock via Internet, then set the date and clock time from your type's card below. Start your stopwatch the moment you press OK.
3
Get to the menu
Open the game and talk to Reese at the printer until I want to print something shows up. Don't pick it yet!
4
Hit the exact second
Pick I want to print something so the screen fades to black when your stopwatch shows the stopwatch time from your type's card. The game lags a tiny bit, so you may need to press a second or two early.
5
Print five
Choose to print five times, add your materials and print. You should get the shards from your type's card below, sometimes with another item or two.
6
Put the clock back
Turn Synchronize Clock via Internet back on when you're done, so your Switch shows the real time again.
Times for every type
Each one is a single job of five prints on a Master Ball printer. Tap your type at the top of the page to jump here.

Got different items? You were a second off. Close the game, set the clock back and try again, pressing a little earlier or later. It takes a few tries to find your timing, and each try uses materials.
Can't turn off the clock sync? Nintendo says it stays on while the Parental Controls app is linked to your Switch.
Your time zone doesn't matter. The printer goes by the time your Switch shows, wherever you are.
This was figured out by the Pokémon research community, and the times come from their published
Item Printer lists. The same trick prints Gold Bottle Caps and
Ability Patches too ♡
Stellar
How to get Stellar Tera Shards
Stellar Tera Shards come with The Indigo Disk, and no Tera Raid gives them. Here's where they come from:
Over and over
Wild Stellar Tera Pokémon. Once you've finished The Indigo Disk story, they show up in the Terarium. Beat or catch one for ten Stellar Tera Shards.
The Item Printer. A rare print once it's upgraded to Master Ball.
One time only
Polar Biome in the Terarium.
Area Zero Underdepths.
The very top of the Terarium Core.
Quick questions
Still wondering?
How many Tera Shards do you need to change Tera Type?
Fifty Tera Shards of the type you want. Stellar works the same way, with fifty Stellar Tera Shards.
Where do you change a Pokémon's Tera Type?
At the Treasure Eatery in Medali. Talk to the Cook behind the counter, once you've beaten Larry, the Medali Gym Leader.
Do Tera Raids give Tera Shards of the raid's type?
Yes! Every shard a raid gives matches its Tera Type, so a Fire Tera raid gives Fire Tera Shards.
Why did I get fewer Tera Shards when I joined a raid?
The person hosting a raid gets an extra share of shards that the people joining don't. Before any random extras, a 6★ raid gives the host six and everyone joining three.
What does the Glimmering Charm do?
It adds bonus Tera Shards after a Tera Raid: two for a 3★, five for a 4★, ten for a 5★ and twelve for a 6★. Jacq gives it to you on Reveler's Road once you complete the Kitakami Pokédex.
How do you get Stellar Tera Shards?
Beat or catch wild Stellar Tera Pokémon in the Terarium after finishing The Indigo Disk story, for ten each. Raids never give them.
Can you change Ogerpon's or Terapagos's Tera Type?
No, their Tera Types are fixed and can't be changed with Tera Shards.
